Success Story
U.S. Agency for International Development – Private Sector Engagement Mechanism
USAID awarded the Private Sector Engagement Support (PSE Support) contract to WBD to support the operationalization of the Agency’s Private Sector Engagement Policy.
Learn more of the WBD and PSE partnership and how it played a critical role in supporting USAID and the PSE Team advancing sustainable development outcomes and contribute to the Agency’s Journey to Self-Reliance framework.
Private Sector Engagement
Through its Private Sector Engagement (PSE) Policy, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is deepening its collaboration with the private sector to seek market-based approaches across all areas of our work, from economic growth, energy, agriculture, and global health to humanitarian assistance, women’s empowerment, education, and addressing crisis and conflict.

Case Study
The PSE policy positions USAID to increase and deepen its collaboration with the private sector and accelerate progress towards ending foreign assistance. USAID’s approach is evolving from transactions and partnerships to strategic collaboration, and from project-based partnerships to relationships that create opportunities for co-creation and achieving outcomes at scale that neither of us could achieve alone.
By strengthening internal resources, capacities, and skills through all levels of USAID staffing, the Agency seeks to build USAID’s capacity in business, industry, and private enterprise to unlock private investment and achieve sustainable development outcomes at greater scale.
Strengthening Country Systems
WBD achieves procurement efficiency and ensures that the quality of procurement serves the public interests. More broadly, WBD is able to reform legal and institutional frameworks for procurement by developing professional procurement institutions and a well-trained workforce equipped with more efficient procedures and the latest technologies.
